The vision of the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Clinic is to improve quality of life in patients diagnosed with COPD through consistent care across the healthcare continuum.
The clinic provides comprehensive evaluation of the patient's COPD status by respirologists who will recommend or implement management strategies in conjunction with the family physician that may include changes in medication, further testing, oxygen prescriptions and referrals to rehabilitation.
Patients are seen by a dietitian, a physiotherapist and a respiratory therapist for assessment during their visit. The COPD educator also provides patient education and smoking cessation counseling where required.
The COPD clinic is involved in research, both clinical and basic science research to improve the quality of life and outcomes of COPD patients.
